Happy Halladays???

Well clearly the hot topic in baseball over the All-Star break has been the Roy Halladay situation in Toronto. Ive decided to give my personal input on the situation.

I would allow the Blue Jays to include Vernon Wells in the deal.

1. That would probly lower there demands slightly. Im not sure the exact figures of his contract but Vernon Wells is in the second year of a 7 year extension he signed. Yea I would rather not be locked into that huge contract for 6 years including this one. However we can afford it with Nady, Damon, Matsui all coming off the books this offseason.

2. However I can also see Vernon Wells reviving his career playing in pinstripes. The shorter lines will lead to better power numbers. He is more of a pull hitter but can go the other way at times getting the ball into the jet streams for the cheap homeruns. But more importantly he will be in a lineup with A-rod and Teixeira. He hasnt been able to put up the same numbers since Delgado left Toronto for Florida. The extra Protection would be good for Vernon.

3. With Vernon patrolling Centerfield and Damon in Left, (Who I would like to resign after the season) Melky becomes expendable. I prefer to keep Gardner over Melky because he provides a world of speed late in games and has seemed to figure out how to hit at the Major League Level. Melky could then be used to bring in a relief pitcher. Pirates have always seemed to like him and could make John Grabow available to us. Im not sure what the price for him would be though.

Who would I give up for Halladay?

1. Joba Chamberlain- I Like him alot but he just isnt the same Joba we had starting for us last year. He doesnt seem like he cares much about his starts and doesnt get to down after a loss. Probly because the media wont rip into him for sucking they will blame Girardi and Cashman for not using him out of the pen. Joba rarley gets blamed for pitching poorly and he realizes that so who cares if he pitches bad. Pheraps a change of organization and realizing he isnt the best thing to happen to New York will be the spark Joba needs.

2. Austin Jackson- I realize he is our best outfield prospect However Damon, Wells, Swisher and Gardner can handle the outfield just fine next year. Anyways while I do see Jackson becoming a very solid starter I dont see him becoming a huge star.

3. Jesus Montero- He has alot of power and will become one of the best power hitters in baseball. However scouts say he is to big to be a catcher down the road. So basically we will have a young DH on our hands if we keep him. Plus Austine Romine should be a better option for us down the line as a catcher and not a DH.

4. Any of our minor league pitchers- Im tired of people like Alan Horne having a real solid season being claimed untouchable. Then just falling apart after that season.

Players I would not trade.

Phil Hughes- Im not going to explain this other than saying he is a future ace, and he WILL be better than Joba.

Robinson Cano- I remember reading rumors in the pre season that had us trading him. That would be a mistake he has proven how good of a hitter he is and when he gets hot very few players are better in baseball. Anyways bluejays already have Aaron Hill.

So my offer?

Joba Chamberlain, Austin Jackson, Jesus Montrero, Zach Mcallister, Possible a couple C-grade prospects for Roy Halladay and Vernon Wells.
