Here is a short list of Yankees from last season who would have been a better and cheaper option than Nick Johnson besides the obvious Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon.
Nick Johnson- .167 2 HR 8 RBI .388
Shelley Duncan- .230 10 HR 32 RBI .313
Xavier Nady- .258 6 HR 33 RBI .314
Eric Hinske- .252 10 HR 48 RBI .333
Jerry Hairston- .244 10 HR 50 RBI .299
None of them had a great year but each had better year than our number 2 hitter and I would've taken any of them over Johnson.
